2XU Compression Run 2014 Build Up
It's the long weekend + school holiday week. People are less (been able to park inside 2 days out of 2 working days now) at work. Work is a bunch as always, but the nerves of going through this week's race coupled with the slower week due to the above reasons made me feel like prepping myself for the race this weekend would be worth it.
Have done 15/16km starting from Padang Merbuk area. Never had a Taman Botani starting venue before. And it's a longer distance than 15/16km with the 2 killer hills at Bukit Tunku and Mayor Hill. So I know this route is nothing to be complacent about. Checked on the website and the race route is out - 2XU Half Marathon route. No elevation information whatsoever. Being anxious myself, went through the trouble of sneaking few minutes of my precious time at office mapping the route on Map My Run. The verdict is as follows.
Looks identical aren't they :).
Total distance mapped is slightly more than the so called 21.1. So I know it would be overdistance, and will not have to push my heart out so much.
The route will pass through the 2 dreaded hilly areas. And with a longer distance, I have so much to pray for now. God knows what else is in store other than the 2 hilly areas. The only good things are the 2 hilly areas still the top 2 peaks.
The elevation gain give somewhat something to hope for (highlighted below):
for 15km, the gain is 279. for HM the gain is 331, which is daunting. But, after looking at the elevation gain of my normal LSD route, it gives me some slight taint of hope. at HM distance, my LSD route would yield staggering 585m elevation. I am still learning how this elevation works. I remembered it didn't give perfect sense to me last time (what I thought to be hilly, appeared to have less elevation vice versa). But that's what the numbers are, and I'm back full of hope now. Hopes that my training route gives me enough training I need, and hopes that I'll be able to nail this one.

Anxious still, as I have not fully recovered from last week's flu. Started to have slight cough yesterday even. Don't know about the legs. been ramping the mileage quite a bit.
On another note, by right it should be a solo race. Lucky hubs has agreed to 'ghost' the race. At least I have a driver there.
Have improved from 6.44 to 6.08 (2XU 2013 to NMGRR 2nd series). Let's hope to at least make it somewhere close to 6.08.
Adios
