When a recovery is a must

What happened this morning, deserves a good recap of what happened.

Wanted to simply document it on IG, but I think the others deserves better update on their IG feed.

The dailymile, what happened deserves a better and longer place to have it documented.

So here I am now.

My legs were almost dead this morning. Literally. I felt it yesterday. But I thought it will be better today since I had a bad one for my 2XU shakeout last saturday as well. But I did ok still given the circumstances for 2XU. But it didn't today, apparently. I suffered one of those, hall of fame worthy training runs for one of the worst it can be. Pace aside, I knew from the beginning it would be a tough one. 30 mins come (the time it needs for me to generally warmed up and get up to speed) and nothing has changed. Legs were stubborn still. I knew then this would be a long one.

Nothing much is there to mention on the run, other than sheer stiffness, toilet urge which I will try to avoid at all cost and total disregard to the pace to makeup for heartbreak for the known to be bad run. I learnt from before that in this kind of run, it will only get worse if you push it more than it should. So ignorance, in order to avoid from pushing yourself still, is the best way forward. Nothing better in this than just following the comfortable pace that the legs and for this case the tummy can handle. And it appeared to be a good strategy as I could at least finish off the planned 2 hours run despite the lack of distance. And the literally painful run now will hopefully be able to exert just sufficient amount of stress and training the legs need to immitate the marathon but slow and kind enough to not break it down so much for the well deserved recovery afterwards. I have tried out a new gel, given out during 2XU run the week before. And it turned out to be so good. The GNC girl at the BSN PNM racepack had promoted this. It tastes nice, didn't taste like medicine, texture is also smooth, I kind of feel that I felt energised right after. Maybe I really should already consider a switch from my trusted Gu. Or, Gu for training and the 2nd Surge for races. Top of the mind was already planning for my recovery plans. But of course, sufficient time to do just that is totally is totally a different story. See, told ya the run deserves an entry on its own.

Allah is great. This has to happen just a day after I bought myself the much researched and awaited recovery powder. It was the BSN PNM race pack collection yesterday. The GNC booth was there. Suddenly there was something else than the normal Accelerade. Something of a smallar pack, hence cheaper. Sold at 30% lesser than retail. And entitles all participants to become a member at a sheer RM5. And the sheer and bold AMINO ACID  words just had me sold. Of course, the sales girl knew her stuff and that totally helped with the purchase as well. Cheap or not, it was still RM 83 after discount. Was actually mostly looking for a breakfast solution on race day. And after much browsing, the following power bar seems will do just that.

Back to the awful run. I had quite few quitting instances. But I slowed the pace and it has proven to help. Thought of at least completing 17km, even that was not possible. Ended up with a mere 16.91.

Right at the trusted basketball court where I always finished my run, the legs were definitely stiff. Only few stretches was possible. If only I had the time, I would have spent more time at that. But it was already 9 am, and it's near to the silent promised cutoff time for me. Back home was greeted with a naked baby. Of course, all other stretching and recovery plans were on halt. Had to dress the baby up and of course, he was looking for milk right after. Before settling down on the bed to nurse him, quickly went to the kitchen to mix myself the recovery drink. And it was simply tasty. Totally love it. Grabbed the icepack, and off I went to nurse my baby. Rotated the icepacks all over the thighs, hamstrings, quads while the other hand was handling the baby. Multitask is my bff. Point is, even when there's a sequence of recovery plans planned out, I don't have that much luxury to perform them. Hubs was at the side, but of course I wouldn't dare to mention about the pain, as it will definitely backfire. Silence was a much better option. Oo, before actually lied down, I had quickly made the kids some bread as well. Yeah I have a maid. But I still do all these myself and juggles and struggles like there's no one else in the house. So I managed to steal a small piece of the bread from the kids. So that was my only meal intake other than the drink.

To no surprise, the ice pack treatment seems to be working. The pain was not completely off, but it got much better. Put perskindol on the legs before sleeping, and felt better in the morning. Would squeeze some slight stretches in between where possible. And by end of monday, treated myself with around 16 mins of stationery bike ride at the gym. The legs feel much better now. Tomorrow will be our team building in FRIM, on which I will have my maiden run with the Pure Grit. Hope the legs will get to recover through that and will get even stronger for the marathon later.

A recovery is indeed a must. Or I'm just too old now. Sigh
