Reflecting 2014

2014 has been a great year. More than I had imagined. It did fall short of my running targets, particularly of completing at least 2 Full Marathons, but as a whole it was a great year full of new accomplishment.

  • Logged 1568+soon to be 3.8km = 1571.8 km in 2014. 3.8km will be from the final fun run for the year for MDCC NYE Fun Run with the kids. It's a night run, so something new for them, which will be on tonight. I had targetted for 2014 km earlier on. That didn't happen and I dont think it can happen this year.
  • 4 races for the kids. 2 with medals. Got to start them early. More than last year's 1 race.
  • 12 races (races with the kids excluded). Includes the non-competitive DNF MWM 2014 and Energizer Night Race Fun Run. It was a fun run, but I did it competitively for myself, to gauge my 5km timing. It wasn't good definitely. But post Ramadhan is a good excuse for that. Also included the KL Rat Race 2014, which I could have done better, but still proud with the result nonetheless. Races were very less in 2013, considering it's the baby year. So having to get more than 10 in 2014 is quite overwhelming. And they are mostly more than 15km races. No 10 kms at all.
  • My best position for 2014 is from the International Ipoh Run and Cyberjaya Firefighter at No. 12.
  • 12 & 13 has been my lucky number in 2014. Been getting 12th and 13th spots for 2 races each. 12th as above, 13th for KL Rat Race and NMGRR 4th Series.
  • Had 3 pregnant Half Marathons, and the timing has been good.
  • Learned the hard truth of injury and overtraining (or the lack thereof). I have long been very cautious about injury, after having sidelined to close to 2 months for ankle injury. The hamstring injury sustained in the weeks leading to the Full marathon still troubles me. Next target is to give higher importance to strength training. Can't recall how many times have I reminded myself that.
  • Brought the kids to 2 hike sessions at Bukit Gasing. Finished our 2nd session in 1 hr 23 mins. Earlier than aggressive target of 1.5 hours. Even then, we did spent some time at the top to let hubs to recover. The kids were fine though. Tough kids they were.
  • Brought the colleagues to Camp 5 as well. Satisfied my own needs and opening opportunities for others.
  • Brought the kids to Camp 5 for rock climbing. Been wanting to try myself for ages, and I finally managed to drag the whole family along
  • Signed up for the long planned, overdue Mount Kinabalu Climb. And I get to go together with the hub, make it even more special with no conflicting acquaintances issue, as both husband and wife are our neighbors.
Of course, more has happened personally, career, family. I have grown better of some sort, if not much. 2015 will have less fitness accomplishment definitely. But let's take the chance to rehab, recover and grow stronger than ever.

Have a great 2015 everyone.
