Reach Out Run 2015
I had this drafted way earlier. But it didn't get finished until after I delivered. So here goes.
--------------------------------------------------
Ok, this was officially the final run for this pregnancy. I have to be a bit sentimental about it. Other than being the final race, it will be the final ever as well, as I may not have another pregnancy after this (depending on Allah's will). I will not be ever to test my pregnancy limits anymore (fine, I keep on telling why am I so consumed into maintaining running throughout pregnancy is about maintaining fitness, but I also have deep within me, that self validation to test my limits). And the week after would be Ramadhan, so I will have to hang my running shoes earlier than I should. So the Reach Out Run really matters.
A little drama prior to the race. Since we had just started football training for the kids, our Sundays will be different from now on. It will be more difficult to join races. We will need to think earlier on, the kids' logistic matters to the training. And hubs was very adamant on making sure that the kids will not skip their training. Lucky it's only a short run, hence, we will not have to be at the venue too early on, and we have a friend staying in Shah Alam, whom we can drop the kids off, and have their favour to send the kids to the training. And that was what we did. Woke the kids up, have them showered, bring the gears, send them to our friends, it was raining, we had to wait a little before the friend showed up at the gate and we were already running late, had to have the kids to go through the rain. So much hassle in the morning. Come to think of it now, am so worried of how will I face this kind of situation again, on the days that we'll have our race.
So that was done. We then headed to Putrajaya for the race. The rain was so heavy, was wondering whether they would delay the race or even cancel, like how it almost did for the Shape Run 2015 the other day. We were also driving quite slow as the road was slippery as well. Hence, we would definitely arrived late. But I was assuming that the race would be delayed, so not that much worry there. When we finally arrived, there was almost no one at the starting line. Everyone has started. That was the first time that we ever got that late, to the point that we were wondering whether we should even proceed or not. But we did run. Not too long after that, we managed to catchup with the rest.
That was the most advanced pregnancy for me in a race, and I wondered why no one noticed. But it was a good thing as well. I guess no one bothered to look down below eye level. Or when they did finally notice, I was already too far away.
I took a comfortably steady pace, just as much as my body could handle, especially at the start of the race. Was running along hubs, but I knew, it was at a pace which was not sustainable for him. And he did stop after a while. So I went on, on normal pace which I don't think will not make much difference. The route brought us to the Putrajaya bridge, which involved some inclines. Again, I used the relevant pace for such inclines. I kept on passing other people one after another, which gave me a good mental boost. Not only that we were the last to start, we managed to catch up with so many other people at that pregnancy state that I was in. I then heard like someone was calling my name. It was my friend. But of course, I didn't stay long, had a quick chat and went off. After the bridge was done, I suddenly noticed that my pace was in the sub 6 pace. Not sure how long has it been that way, but it certainly gave me a big surprised. My last 5km PR was at 5th month. Come 6th month, I never get anything lesser than 6'30". Now, suddenly it has a possibility to be a sub 6? I put my hope low still. It was already half way through, so chance was actually quite high. But with the braxton hicks, and the small, pressed bladder, and the erratic heart rate, I can never put my hopes high.
I went on, maintaining a decent pace, as much as my body could handle. I paid very close attention to my vitals and perceived effort. the heart rate seems high, but effort wise, I think I had some to spare. It was really a risky move. I can easily lose it and stumble. The thoughts of stumbling down did cross my mind, and it had somehow put things in order. I would have sprinted even more. Upon reaching the finishing line, the watch was beeping constantly. The more worried I was as I reached the finishing. Alhamdulillah, all is well. I managed to reach in 1 piece. I was ok even after that, no dizzy, no pain whatsoever.
I was very surprised with the result. Not only that I had stopped getting any good outcome from my 6th month, I managed to get a good one at my 8.5 months. What makes it even more special was I even beat my 5km pregnancy PR that I had recorded when I was at 5th month (-0.06) from the MHWH Night Run 2015. That PR was a good PR to me, and I was able to beat that. Must be the rain blessings I guess. And my baby behaved well enough during that time, that allowed me to have an undisturbed race.
Below here is still my best 5km PR of course, back in July 2013 (5 months post pregnancy). Now it's time to renew the record then.
