The Scoben takes South Korea - The inception
The much planned, prepared and anticipated holiday was finally up and done with. We got back here almost exactly a week last week, and here I am trying to put the memories together, for our own reading and viewing pleasures later.
A slight recap on the background. We were never into long haul holiday so much. So this holiday, can be considered a weird one. All our passports were expired since 2011, then we figured, we have cuti-cuti malaysia instead then. There's a lot to discover from Malaysia anyway. After having 2 additional kids after 2011, it makes perfect sense to still be on this cuti-cuti Malaysia mode, for as long as we can. Then the bro in law had to make his way for a 1 year employment in South Korea. He brought all his family of 3 along. Then the hubs's family started to get the idea of dropping by, one of the day. That's how it all started. I never looked forward for it since the very beginning anyway. I was sceptical even. With soon to be 4 kids (Naela was still in the tummy when the planning started), I have much reservation on the success rate of the planned holiday. Even if we did go, I wasn't sure whether it will be an enjoyable one. With all the kids tugged along. But for me, it's all or nothing. If I go, then everyone goes. If they don't, then so would I.
Then the Air Asia free seats offer was up in March. Both hubs and the bro in law (who's going to accompany the parents in law) stayed up for the pre-opening of the free seats. I was well asleep when they were online. I heard noises for sure, of their discussion, but I was completely in my slumber. Then the hubs asked for my confirmation on one of the days that he picked. I just agreed to whatever decision that he was making, the next thing I knew, he just mentioned that it was done.
It was not until the next morning that I realised that we have officially signed ourselves up for the travel of our life. Well for now at least. Complete, all 6 of us, for the first time. The rate was good, the timing seems good, as it clashed with a public holiday, and it was during school break. The only downside was it was only a 6 day holiday. I knew 6 days would be short. But hubs didn't share the same idea, at that time at least. You know, the cost would be high, we don't have enough leave, worried about leaving work for too long, who's going to cover for us when we are away. This is definitely the sort of problem that I would have to worry in my old company, as no one covers anyone. But in my current, we have a system where someone will help to cover for us in our absence. But of course, as much I can avoid, I would. Having someone to cover for you doesn't necessarily mean a good and easy thing. And one last thing, we notice that 4 day holiday is just nice. Beyond that, we would be happily to reach home as soon as we can. But little that we know that for a long haul travel, it will never be enough.
So somehow when we went to my hometown, the plan somehow slipped our mouth. My parents heard them and gestured their interest to join us. We thought it was just a silly talk by them. But somehow, they were still pursuing the matter. And we bought their ticket much later, since there were still seats available in the same flight. Of course it was more expensive by around RM 400 more. So that's it, all of us, 4 adults, 3 kids and 1 newborn will be making our way to the orient.
