Compressport Semenyih Eco Trail Run 2016
I got to know Nana, my neighbor, sometime in the middle of 2016. Neighbour, being referred to by another neighbor, who got referred to me due since I was running while pregnant. Who reached out to me to know how would you continue on running while pregnant.
Fast forward to today, she still hasn't gotten pregnant. But we sure joined quite a number of races together. And blessed enough, that we could cover our newfound backyard trail in Alam Budiman. Which is very much like sekangkang kera saja from our house.
Having known her kind of completed my trail mission in 2016. I had that intention since the start of the year and was blessed enough that Allah granted me that. And for making my path crossed with this newfound neighbor, since most of my trails after KOKK was with her. So this Compressport Run, was not spared as well.
The race was a 25km. I was quite anxious of whether or not I could do it. but having tried the 18km kokk and the underdistance Kalumpang, 25km should be doable. Trails are mostly at remote places. Hence, a company is especially important. So I should be so grateful to having known my neighbor.
We gathered along with the 50km runners. The environment was totally different with them runners. It's kind of an eye opener for me, being a trail newbie. The community is quite small, hence many people know one another. The outfit is also quite different, unlike me, who has my outfit similar with what I always have with my road races. And I could tell that these trail runners, they will mostly do trails than roads. I also saw Aishah Sinclair's dad. He was mostly on his own. Ok, so now I have less thing to worry on. Other than safety, I should not be worried about being on my own.
The race started on time. There was a slight road path, before we enter into the trail section. It was not hilly. I was excited my GoPro. This was the first time that I started to bring GoPro along in races. Partly since it's quite a long distance, so I would need to use water bladder, hence I had enough storage space for my essentials and my GoPro. And I truly enjoyed taking video with the GoPro.
Everything was fine, I followed my own comfort pace. Let others go on theirs. Bumped into an ex Uni-mate and and later on workplace which I bumped into during SCKLM 2016 as well. He was a very shy guy before and still was it seemed. Until about KM6, where people just stopped running. Apparently there was no marker up front, and we were on the wrong path. We had to turn back. Once back, we got into where we came, and no firm direction on where we supposed to be headed. we were asked to go right, then we had to stop again and wait for direction. When we headed left, we got back to where we came from earlier on. It was like that for quite a while, and we've been looping around for about 2-3 times, depending on how soon you reach, and whether you were eager enough to follow the earlier crowd when there was no really correct direction. We had to even hang around, did nothing and waiting for some instruction to arrive. When we finally got it, I was still skeptical that it was really correct, so I was taking it easy still. Until we reached some where quite unfamiliar. At that point, everyone seemed to pick up their paces. And so did I.
The route ahead was quite fun. Not too narrow, not too technical. There were only mild descents. At one point, we had to cross the road, then back to trails and off road. There were consistent markers afterwards. But I had made sure that I was always around people at any point of time. Safety is always a major concern with trails. At one point, I thought a couple of guys would be with me most of the time, but I had to leave them, once I saw some other runner to tag along to. Then, I had to leave him as well, and had to move on to other runners. It was like that until about the last checkpoint. I taggged along, had to part ways, tag on to another one, so on so forth. At one point, I couldn't afford to do that any longer, plus I thought it was about to finish. So I was left on my own for quite some amount of time. I cared not about music or hearing entertainment with trails in that lonely condition, the more reason I should be alert to my surrounding.
When it seemed to be closing to the finish line, we had to pass through a wood factory. It was quite scary as I was on my own, but luckily there was some volunteer up front, who guided runner on the correct path. When we thought that it was only 2 km to go, we had to go into the woods again, and had to pass by a herd of cows. Black, big cows. Resting and munching. I had to slow down. Slowly walk passed them. Cow's poop was everywhere. I was on my own still of course. Lucky there was no chased by the cows drama. I had even think of the worst; what if the cow chased me like one of those bull fight. Those cows really seemed capable of that. Not the skinny and small ones. Alhamdulillah nothing bad happened. And it was quite some distance after that. I had anticipated the remaining distance wrong, and had played the finishing pace wrong. I walked for about 1 km towards the finish. Finally I bumped into someone, which I eventually overtook as well. Until it reached a spot where it was supposed to be a U-turn. I did the right thing of going up the u-turn and turned back. Turned out the person that I overtook just now simply crossed over. Well, at least my conscience was clear.
When I was reaching the finishing line, I took out my Go Pro and had my very first finishing video. The ex-unimate that I mentioned just now was passing by when I finish. When I had finished, I was suddenly handed out a tag. It was a total surprise. I didn't even find out how many positions they were giving out. I was handed out number 8, so they must be giving out altogether 10. It was so surreal. I consider this my 2nd major one after Kemensah, due to the distance and from a trail run.
It was quite a while until the prize giving. I had to wait for my carpoolers anyhow. I think the prize giving happened before they even reach the finish. Lucky I had my neighbour, who helped me took the picture.
Alhamdulillah, 2016 has been a good year. I had good races one after another. I never even knew that I even had the chance of winning in any races. but 2016 has made it possible in several occasions. Hope it wouldn't stop there. At least not yet.
