MPAJ Eco Kids Trail Run

As much as my race deserve some recapping, so does the kids' as well.

I was so thrilled when I knew that there was such thing as kids trail run. That's what the event described itself. Was wondering how would a trail for kids be, but I guessed, let's find out. The race fee was so cheap, RM 25 for Qays and RM 35 for Qaid being the bigger kid, so there was really no harm in it.

It was held in December and it was kind of the closure of running events in 2016. There were single and mix categories. I decided to split the kids. Qaid of course has less chance of securing anything, since he would be competing against elder ones, but Qays would have more chance, as he would be the eldest in his age group.

It rained the night before so the track was a bit muddy. Due to the overwhelming number of participants, runners were separated in waves. The top runners from each wave would be selected for the next round. Qaid gave a good run, considering he was one of the younger ones. Qays were the first, if not one of the top runners, hence was selected to the next round. It was quite a while for all the waves to be completed, with categories of toddlers and parent running together as well. So it was quite a task, having to wait there in muddy field, with Naela along, and me in a ready to go out attire. I wouldn't have mind getting myself dirty if I had the right outfit on.

And so the time was up. The route started outside the field, where parents couldn't really access and know what's happening. After that, the route is more of an obstacle challenge, with few challenges ahead. Qays was from the back. My kids seems to be knowing their race strategy well by now, have a comfortable pace early on and strike your best pace in the end. From 4th position, Qays got to number 3. And what was really amazing was Qays started to pick up his pace about 200m from finishing and started to give the 2nd boy a challenge of his life. Qays then overtook at the very last minute before the race finishes and for me it was an epic finish. A true sportsman kind of finishing. The kind where you never give and give it your all to the very end. I'm so proud that he picked this spirit up this young.

It was a while until the prize giving session now. They had a lot of games in between. And the kids as usual, actively participated and brought home some vouchers. And then the time was up for the prize giving. When Qays' category was up, we were not that prepared as were only gearing up for no. 2 position. But his name was called first. Confused, I just asked him to just go ahead and get his prize. Then, the person called for no. 2 was the person that he overtook. Then I knew what was up. They had registered the 2nd runner as 2nd place, even when the race was not over yet. So we waited until the ceremony was over. Qays was confused and slightly pissed. I went to the organiser and showed that video that I had taken. Lucky I had a video. Kind of a lesson learnt to everyone as well. Take as much video as you can. You never know when it can come in handy. It took a while for them to sort the correction out. The no. 3 boy and the mom was quite a good sport. They took my argument well. I said thanks, as I knew it would be difficult to let it go as well. I had a photo of them together. And Qays got his much deserved medal and prize money. It was not that much, but he certainly appreciated it so much. And I am a happy mother myself getting to reward my kids hard work that way. So, a good racing year for 2016 just couldn't get any better. And I only thank Allah for that.
