King of Forest 2017, Ipoh 7 Bridges 2017
Next after the Hulu Langat Marathon was my first trail of the year, the King of Forest and the supposed key half marathon race, the Ipoh 7 Bridges Run.
I won't deny that I was hoping for some positions in these 2 races. King of Forest, since my normal podium ish race being on a trail and since they give prizes away for top 10 finishers. For Ipoh, the prize giveaway was quite a lot as well until number 8. So there seems to be chance, and I got my first prize in Ipoh half as well (totally a different race actually) 3 years ago.
King of Forest 2017
There were a lot of fast runners joined apparently. A lot of people just stormed off fast. I tried as well, cos I know the trail will be too narrow for that kind of crowd. So I tried to be at the front pack, but there were more upfront.
Being held in Bukit Gasing, you cannot avoid from hill climb. And this tiny hill has a lot of tiny tracks, not the normal track that we always use. Which is why I like this race. I like the race being a bit technical. But it was a wee bit too technical with steep inclines which made it quite impossible to run in. I joined with my hubs too. We started together, then, I had to leave him behind.
I started way from the back. It was good enough that I managed to catch up with the front pack. but it wasn't enough definitely. I had to settle with slightly beyond top 10. Many fast runners joined to, and I have to accept the fact that I am more of a distance and endurance runner than a shorter trail and faster runner. A run is still a run and I had fun while it lasts.
Ipoh 7 Bridges 2017
As for the Ipoh 7 Bridges, it coincided with hubs' special event ever, the STAROBW2018, on which, their batch is organising. The event was so major, that they started the preparation a year back. Long story short, a lot of wives' heart was broken (including yours truly) and got numbed at the same time. 1 year was long enough for us to take the wound and swallow them. So by the time when the event was held, we were totally in acceptance on what fate has gotten us and totally supportive of the hubs' worthy cause.
So back to the race. It happened on the same weekend. I wouldn't have joined the weekend if it was not for the race. So we went back with the whole gang. I drove on my own in the jam in the highway. And it was really so much traffic. Apparently there were few other events happening in the weekend as well. The race started at 4 am, which for me is very nice. I would be able to reach home before the kids were even up. Bumped into few friends, saw few other running groups. Apparently a lot of people came down from KL just for this event. Ok, there went my hope of securing anything at all. So I took the race easy, racing my own race, in the way I know how. The route was nice. I couldn't finish in my sub 2 hr nemesis which has been an unlocked dream since 6 years back. I had to accept just a decent 2:11 timing, which can be considered good enough considering an unfit me. I finished before hubs started his.
