SCKLM 2017
The day finally come. The most anticipated running event of the year. It went quite hiccup free this time. Alhamdulillah. Having had the logistics sorted out last year, I was much more calmer this year. I knew Glenmarie is always the best bet. I knew 2 o'clock wake up time is the optimal wake up time. We didn't have that much rest from the night, as we were rushing from football, then dinner, then from picking up bibik, who decided to go for her outing at this time. So the night prior to race was busy and tight. I didn't have that much time to get into the race with the right mindset. But I knew right before that it wasn't to be a good race. As long as it doesn't turn out too bad, it should be good enough.
Alhamdulillah, things went well in the morning. I didn't oversleep, Naela was not up and crying and causing any trouble. Traffic was good. Reached the station in time. In fact it was close to perfect, unlike last year, where the starting time was all wrong. Parking problem, bag deposit problem, starting pen problem. I even got chance to visit the porta loo, and cleared the bladder, which turned out a good decision, as I didn't have to visit the toilet even until the run ended.
And so the run started. There were so many people. I know I keep on saying this year after year. But really, there were so many people, which increases year after year. It felt so humid, not from the weather I concluded. But from the body heat that each one of us has exerted. I managed to get into my own vacuum, filtered everyone else, get in my own state of mind. Which was very difficult in maintaining my own comfortable pace. I knew that was my only key to the finish. And I managed to do just that.
There were particularly a lot of Indonesian runners. Thank you all for your support. After a while, I was taken over by an ex colleague, Fariez, whom I met in various races before and first met him after a long time and after taking up running just last year. So this is kind of an event anniversary from where we first bumped into each other again.
As for the race and the training that led up to this, there's a lot of lessons learned.
I only had little progress. But any kind of progress is worth celebrating.
The speed workouts kind of backfired me. It should have helped me I know. But maybe my body took the reaction wrong. Or maybe because I changed my foot strike as well. So it took more toll than it should. too many things going on at the same time. I had to make a very conscious effort to make sure I land my foot on the whole foot rather than just the front. It is the best footstrike on the fore foot is you are sprinting. But it's not for long distance. That's how it affects me at least. I cannot find any other reason than that. I only did all things right, except for that. Well, another marathon was sure in the book, and I should be glad enough to get a decent one at that. Alhamdulillah and till the next marathon.
