Running Mom Turned Soccermom
It's only the 2nd month of 2014 and life has been crazy. 1st, it was the school enrolment period, which took quite a toll on us. Next, had to prepare for his party. The last time that we had a big event at the house was exactly 5 years ago. a combination of housewarming and Qaid's birthday, during the CNY hols. since then, birthday parties has gone so overrated. One of the reasons why we've avoided birthday parties for fear of the tolls it will take on us. But since there's so many reason to celebrate (Qaisar's Birthday, Aqiqah, Qaid been requesting a prty for himself many times now), we figured, we cannot run anymore.
I hate planning for parties as it will be a lot to think about. The house condition (droopy curtain, unmade lawn, bloated wardrobe and the list goes on), the cost the hassle of preparing for the event. But it's such a pity when he keeps on asking, and he never have a proper one at home that he can easily recall. So since he starting to have more sets of friends now, and he will be bigger later to enjoy kids' party, now seems like a good time. Plus it coincides with the bonus payout, hence no bank needs to be broken.
So I had framed my mind for plans for the party the moment Qaid was safely in school. and thanks to my run, all the plans were made, triggered, detailed out along with its execution plans were incepted during the runs. and i didn't plan for anything fancy, but i had thoughts of making it fun. a game or something. while thinking of the games to conduct, a friend had suggested of making a pinata. and the rest is history. It triggered all the creative DIYs, that I never kno I had it in me. One of the satisfying thing about the birthday preparation was on all the stuffs that I had made up. These are the list of things:

It triggered all the creative DIYs, that I never kno I had it in me. One of the satisfying thing about the birthday preparation was on all the stuffs that I had made up. These are the list of things:
- Birthday card (nothing special on this, the bro in law helped out, but i picked the design, and stumbled across a lot of other fancy stuff on its way. according to the theme)
- Flag banner
- Pinata
- Masks. multiple of them. and this has consumed a lot of time after the pinata
- 2 Captain America shields
- Captain America shield for the party pack
- pinata buster
I had let Qaid choose his cake design first. and he chose Captain America and little did I know that it's a nice theme to play around with. Final confirmation on the cake was only made 2 weeks back. Been asking around, and the cake from Zurina's Cakes has selections of cool designs and reasonable price. Can be quite pricey but we are paying for the design anyhow. Plus the quantity was enough for the crowd, I'm satisfied with the end result. Comparing with others (that I have came across), her design is up to date, with lots of cool cartoon characters and neat workmanship. The taste of the cake is also good.
Went to the party shop, and there was nothing very interesting according to the theme off the shelf. Since I stumbled across a lot of cool stuff on Pinterest (yes, pinterest has been my besfriend for the past 2 weeks), I decided to make the banner myself, and along with other stuffs 2. Actually, the masks and shields were only thought of 2 weeks back, during Qaid's school event.
The sources
I had to concentrate on finishing the creations, which gave me less time to actually have a step by step guide of how i built, or crafted everything up. But my main sources deserve some credits. So here goes:
- Pinata from Sephaniecorfee's Green Lantern
- Masks from 'sometimes homemade' felt superhero mask
- Captain America shield from abeautifulruckus, mom to quadruplets
These are the 3 main items that require guidance. Other things like flag banner, shield stickers for party pack, and the card just require some googling.
I cant believe that i actually had fun preparing for the party. An effort which i thought would be solely mine, got a lot assistance in the end. Thanks to the hubs bros. And the MIL who prepared add on delicacies on that day.
