The Captain America Shield DIY
The idea for this came the very last minute. The office was in a very festive mood, lots of hampers around for CNY celebration, the hampers even came in boxes (well, nicely decorated hampers put in boxes). Having had trouble of finding a decent box for my pinata, I quickly grabbed the empty box at that time, without having any specific idea of what to do with it. I had to explain to a colleague why I was collecting it, and she gave the idea I may even pursue this for the shield. And so I did.
Rebecca of beautifulruckus's version is made of fleece. Getting cloth is harder and thanks to the colleague of mine, using colored paper instead of cloth is a much convenient way to have it done. Detail step by step can be found on her page.
All you need is 3 different sizes of circular templates. Mine are from these:

From the 3 different templates, the largest should form the base for the box and the red coloured paper. 2nd largest to white, the smallest for the red (photobombed by my birthday flag banner).
The last 1 is the star. I put it off until the bro in law was around. He's good in arts and this was his barehand design. no template required.
put it on, one after another, starting from the largest circle to the smallest. No science here, just estimate where to put it on as long as it's more or less in the middle.
Owh, another thing. What would make the handle? Using whatever available material that I have, I made holes where I can weave some rope through to become the shield handle. This I thought of myself. Proud of it.
Notice the double sided tape marks there? I used the shields as our center piece deco, before it can be used into action. And the kiddos were so quick to take it off, right before cake cutting time. but it managed to remain on the wall quite some time, so that should be good enough.
Initially I used the readily available crepe paper, and the Glue from the pinata. It didn't work too well, as the glue was so wet and thick, and it got to the other side, plus because the crepe paper was so thin. I did another layer using colored paper. I used glue stick to ensure that it didn't get through the 2nd time.
Here's how the finished product looks like. Nice isn't it?
