Mizuno Wave Run 2014.

I like races. Despite the hardship that comes in terms of logistics, it gives you something to look out for. For my case it's even more welcomed since it's my only time running along other people. Other downside is of course, having to leave the kids behind. Having 2 race weeks in 3 weeks time is of course a bonus. 3 medals in 3 weeks. Who can complains?

There was of course, lack of practice the 2 weeks before the race. The week before, I had a raya makan makan at our house. A very last minute decision, which I had to make on order to avoid breaking the yearly customs. No matter how big or small, be it just for relatives or close friends along, I will surely have one no matter what. The menu selection was already a chore. The decision relies largely on the freezer space, time for preparation, attendees. Earlier decision was nasi ayam, but changed at the very last minute after thinking that I will need a space to store at least 6 chickens, on top of other stuffs. So that was striked out. Long story short, we had lasagna (5 large trays), spaghetti meatballs, peach dessert (with marshmallow and whip cream) and bandung soda (hubs specialty now). Lasagna is not an easy task. Preparing the sauce is just 1 thing. Spreading them is really the other. And for all 5 trays. I was barely sleeping the night before the event.

I had planned for a longer run on sunday. But that didn't happen. Not only cause it was raining, and I woke up rather late. But midway, I felt that it felt quite a task, even with only a 10km planned. Then of course, training was made even more scarce since I had to complete my puasa 6. I even fasted on Saturday. But surprisingly it was totally manageable, definitely with Allah's will. The Saturday was the day that I had the most open house even. 3 of them altogether. So lack of training and totally carb depleted due to fasting for the week and just the day before.

As for the race itself, totally put on a comfortable pace rigght from the start. The route was a bit different than last year. Which is good. It got kind of a bit predictable, so a change is much welcomed. It was not a total flat with some manageable inclines. The steepest incline was around km 10-11.

Wasn't having that much hope as I was only treating this as a tune up race. But targetted for at least sub 6.10 overall pace. Despite the comfortable pace, I could sense that I was having quite a decent timing and pace. Suddenly it strucked out that I might be on track for a sub 1 hr 10km. Haven't been able to do that like ever. Not in a race nor training. The final 3 mins before reaching 1 hour might be the only time that I pushed a bit more. Totally no idea whether I managed to even break it or not.

My tummy has a way of signalling that energy is depleting. And I seldom has it. Always ensured that I was properly fueled before. But of course, I couldn't help it much this time around, as there was no carbo loading activities whatsoever. Thought of reaching for another piece of Gu, but it's such a task to even take out the pack, so the moment the water station is up, quickly grabbed 2 cups of revive, and that was enough to last me to the end. I always have this kind of signals only on my training runs, that's when I started having Gu around for my long training runs.

I like everything about the race. The timing and the venue is nice. The ample road space. Very low traffic. There are trees here and there. The sun was up but it was not hot yet. The crowd. The weather on that day was just splendid. Event was properly organised. no crowding and congesting at the finishing like last year. Close to perfect. And hubs liked it too.

Result wise, was happy the moment I've finished. 2 new PRs (5km and 10 km at the following respectively). Improved from the targetted of sub 6.10 to sub 6. I think I saw less women up front, So I hoped of securing a decent spot. But after looking it through, it's only an improvement of 6 mins plus from previous. The hope of securing a decent spot is also to the drain. I was only at 17th spot (not hoping for a top 10, but would have been better if it's better).

On another note, next up is the 2XU half andddd, the much awaited FM of the year, SCKLM. Though this race's result is nothing to shout about, but it is big accomplishment enough for me. It's my best timing so far. It gives new race time prediction, and an improved one. And the upcoming 2XU is big in the sense of counter checking whether the prediction is true. Alhamdulillah for another good race in the books, and hoping for better outcome to come. InsyaAllah.
