PJ Half Marathon 2016
I missed last year's PJ Half Marathon. The route was different than the one I had, and I looked forward to going through the route. This year though, I was in. And it was redemption time.
Caution: This is also an overdue post. Trying my best to catch back up with the correct race recap's order.
PJHM happened just 2 weeks post SCKLM. Been too close post ramadhan, I knew I couldn't expect much. But of course, having had a full marathon just 2 weeks prior should have its benefit of some sort.
As of now, I lost track on the race venue and all. That's how distant this race is now. But a race is a race nonetheless, even more when it's a major one such as this. So, I'll cut the chase towards the race itself.
One thing good about this is, They only offer a HM at max like the Nike, and both me and hubs get to join the same category like the old days. The starting line was in Dataran Petaling Jaya, which is like a trip down memory lane for us. It was quite a long wait at the starting line. While waiting, I heard people were discussing about the Melaka River Marathon. Discussed how good the route was, and I was intrigued. I made a decision that I want to join the event then. There was also a prior announcement about some route change, which I couldn't really relate on its whereabout and whatnots. So long that the organiser manage the route change well, it should be no problem for us runners. Not long after, the race horn blew and off we went.
The race started by circling around the PJ state area towards the PJ hilton and then towards Jalan Gasing, then headed towards PJ oldtown and NPE. It was a definite a trip down memory lane. I always love exploring familiar route on foot. It gives a totally different perspective and feeling. Humidity level was quite fine as well. Though I could sense that it was actually a hot season and humidity should be high, but since there was lot of trees around and no major skyscrapers, the humidity level was fine. I had quite a good pace until the prayer time. I had to take wudhu again, visited the toilet etc. That was it, my official timing would be screwed. I had to bank on my personal timing now. So long as my own personal time is fine, it should be good enough.
This was my 2nd HM for the year I guess, after Nike. And I had quite a good collection of how bad I did, or how wrong my strategy was for Nike. So I was trying to be careful so much this. Careful in terms of reserving energy early on, staying true to myself and my capabilities and limit. And the strategy was quite well. I ensured that I had kind of cruising pace until 10km, allowed it to go a bit faster until km15, allowed it to ramp just a bit up after that and pushed all I can on the final 1km. The route was quite hilly towards the later part. And it was good that I was quite conservative with the effort. And it was very satisfying that I managed to exert my best effort at the final mile. And that was it. It got its deserving PB. Pace wise and personal timing wise at least. Only after 2 years that I managed to renew this. But I still need to work hard to reduce the PB on paper, the official one.
Right after finished, I had no rime but to rush back to the car. Didn't even have much time to stretch and cool down. I had to rush back to pick up the kids for their football. I had wanted to bring them to cheer their father, but there was no time for that. And I brought everyone along, including the youngest 2. And it felt the happiest. I'm always happy if I get to be with everyone.
So as for the result. I was at no 30 in 2014 and I got to 25 now. So Alhamdulillah.
