Crystal Challenge 2016
I joined this just for the sake of William. He asked me to join and since it's cheap and very nearby, I figured, why not.
So, I drove myself there. Going through the darkness of Jalan Paip and the factory area of Setia Alam/Meru was not fun. Factory workers were changing shift during that time, and there were a lot of them on the road. Alhamdulillah nothing bad happened. As usual I arrived Just In Time. I had to run a little bit and had to cut the queue a little bit at the start since the race has started.
The weather was good. I didn't put much thoughts on the race, hence, didn't think much about my race strategy. As long as I thought my pace was not too bad, it was good enough. Didn't see William until the race ended as well.
Being a niche event, I can see that the participants were mostly serious runners. the race setup was good, with sufficient water station, decent gaps in between stations and whatnots. It was not a completely flat route, with some interesting inclines here and there.
As with most races, I was racing mostly against myself (well, I must admit that certain race, I do race against some positions like the UiTM ultra, the Nuang. But only on those, as far as I can recall. Even the Semenyih Compressport was not against any position as I had not much idea which position I was). The race with my own self would mean, as long as I can have a cruising pace the first half, a slightly better effort the next half, the ability to push at the end etc etc. And so this is what I did and I was satisfied with it. But what came as a better surprise was, I got a position for it. Not a very good one, was at number 6, but it was more than enough. I think I was the only Malay within my category. Well the organiser was just so generous. There was various categories and each category had up to 10 winners. I was glad that I ended up joining it. Another win in the book yeayyyy.
As can be seen from the photo here, senior category is much more competitive. Just when I thought I am getting stronger, so does everyone else as well. So things are not getter any nicer or better. Let's just see what the future holds then.
